Many ingredients in your toiletries are harmful:-
*DEA, MEA, TEA. Cause allergic reactions, irritate the eyes, dry hair & skin. Can be carcinogenic, especially to the kidney & liver.
Petrolatum, or vaseline, baby oil mineral oil jelly. Can accelerate sunburn, & strips natural oils from the skin, causing chapping, dryness, premature aging. Prevents elimination of toxins, causing acne for example.
Imidazolidinyl urea & DMDM hydantoin. Can cause joint pain allergies, depression, headaches, chest pain, fatigue, dizziness, insomnia, asthma, weaken immunity, & may be carcinogenic. Found in skin, body & hair products, antiperspirants & nail polish.
Alcohol or isopropyl. A poisonous solvent. Can cause nausea, vomiting, headaches, depression; dries skin & hair. Found in hair colour rinses, skin & beauty products & perfume or aftershave. Can cause nausea, vomiting, headaches, flushing, depression, as well as drying skin & hair creating cracks, leading to infection.
Sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate (SLS). Found in shampoos, conditioners,
toothpastes, bodywashes. A strong detergent which can cause eye
irritation, permanent damage to eyes, especially with children, skin
rashes, hair loss, flaking skin & mouth ulceration. When mixed with
other ingredients, may form carcinogens. Easily penetrates skin,
lodging in the heart, lungs, liver & brain or causing eye or kidney
damage. WARNING: Avoid skin contact, wear respirator, goggles &
protective clothing. Harmful if swallowed. The active ingredients are
modified to reduce reactions. Both types can be derived from coconut or
palm kernel oil. Green People products contain no SLS whatsoever.
Fluoride , used to protect tooth enamel, but can cause fluorosis (white
flecks on teeth) which may indicate what is going on in the bones in
the rest of your body. As a Central Nervous System toxin it can lower
IQ in younger children, adversely affect motor function, learning
ability & behaviour, .i.e. violence. Younger people & children are
PVP/VA copolymer. A petroleum-based ingredient used in hairsprays.
Methyl, propyl, butyl & ethyl paraben. Preservatives found in many products to extend their shelf-life. Highly toxic. Can cause rashes & other allergic reactions.
Padimate-O or octyl dimethyl. PABA can be found in sunscreens. There are concerns that the energy absorbed by this may be turned into free radicals, which may increase the risk of skin cancer.
Synthetic colours: coal tar dyes may be labelled as FD&C or D&C followed by a number. Carcinogenic.
Talc: known carcinogen found in powders & some condoms. Major cause of ovarian cancer when used in genital area. Can lodge in lungs causing respiratory disorders.
Fragrance. Usually petroleum based. May cause headaches, dizziness, rashes, respiratory problems, vomiting, skin irritation, & multiple chemical sensitivity.
Propylene glycol. Present in many skin care products, including stretch mark creams, eye make-up remover, anti-wrinkle creams, moisturisers & baby wipes. It can cause kidney damage & liver abnormalities. WARNING: wear full breathing apparatus & full protective clothing
Formaldehyde. Found in shampoos etc. Harmful by inhalation, ingestion & absorption through the skin. Very destructive of mucous membrane & upper respiratory tract, eyes & skin. Potential cancer hazard; may cause genetic damage.
Mineral oil. Most commonly used in eye make-up remover. Risk of serious damage to eyes.
Glycerol/glycerine. Irritating to eyes & skin. WARNING: in case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with water, & seek medical advice.
Aluminium. Used in anti-perspirants. Contributes to breast cancer & implicated in
Thankfully the EU ruled that certain toxic ingredients could not be used that are still widely used in other countries like America. This ruling was passed in 2003 & came into effect in September 2004, but some there are still many toxic ingredients allowed, not to mention
their unsustainability as by products from the oil industry.
